L dies in Death Note because Light Yagami, the protagonist, outsmarts him by manipulating Rem, the Shinigami, to kill L. Light convinces Rem that if L continues to investigate and capture Kira (Light's alter ego), then Misa Amane, Light's accomplice, will be executed. Rem, who cares deeply for Misa, sacrifices herself to save her, ultimately leading to L's demise. This demonstrates Light's cunning and ruthless nature in eliminating anyone who threatens his plans. **
