United World College Costa Rica is a residential school situated in the town of Santa Ana, close to the city of San Jose, Costa Rica. Students attend the school for two years and prepare for the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma in English and/or Spanish. Many students attend on a scholarship basis and we currently have 165 students representing 63 countries. The thirteen United World Colleges (www.uwc.org) share a common vision, but each has a unique identity. The UWCCR has defined "Three Pillars" on which to build our school: conflict transformation, diversity and sustainability. Our academic, co-curricular and residential life programs reflect those values.

We are seeking qualified and experienced graduate teachers. IB experience is highly desirable. A willingness to contribute to a demanding and highly stimulating international residential educational community is essential! Full time teachers are expected to teach up to 20 hours per week between the hours of 7am-1.15pm, be willing to assist with TOK Program, supervise extended essays in their subject area, serve as a mentor to a group of students and assist with residential duties and various developmental projects.

Co-curricular Area

Purpose

Create in students a critical sense of the importance of community service and its effect and impact on people, as well as to provide them theoretical and practical tools in this field. Provide students with environments that allow them to develop sports and artistic habits and also identify possible interests and potential skills and talents. Facilitate an environment where students are motivated to learn about new initiatives and projects, through different and challenging and experiential activities that incorporate the goals of Peace of the College.

- Head of Sports

The Head of Sports is in charge of the coordination of sports activities, through which a healthy lifestyle will be promoted on the College population.
Among his/her responsibilities, there are:
     - Support to the CAS Program Action component
     - Weekend activities
     - Follow-up to the students’ individual physical activity
     - Being in charge of the College sports facilities and equipment. Organization of schedules and purchase and maintenance of equipment.
The Head of Sports should promote a link between the Integral Health area and the other College areas.

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree (preferably "Licenciatura" / postgraduate degree) in Physical Education or similar area.
  • At least three years of experience in the educational sector (preferably in International Baccalaureate)
  • Mastery of English (oral and written)
